Fine Arts Militia spreads its message with SML's WeedSM

Seattle, January 18, 2004 - Rap supergroup Fine Arts Militia has struck a deal with Shared Media Licensing, Inc. (SML) to release its material in SML' s new "Weed" format for distribution on the Internet.

Dubbed "intense," "controversial," and even "dangerous," the group's highly political lyrics are intended to fight complacency and "encourage critical thought and dialog on the vital issues facing the commonwealth of man."

Group member Chuck D, founder of the seminal rap group Public Enemy and a noted social critic, observes: "Weed lets us get our message directly to the people, without layers of corporate bureaucracy to water it down and fuck it up. We hope people will hear it, and pass it on to their friends. Weed makes this happen naturally."

Weed files are designed to be freely shared on the Internet; any recipient can listen 3 times for free, then is asked to purchase the title. Artists get 50% of all sales, with 35% distributed to the three people immediately above the recipient in the chain of distribution. Buying a Weed file entitles the buyer to redistribute it and earn a share of future sales. Buyers can also burn unlimited copies to CD and transfer titles to their Windows Media portable devices.

SML President John Beezer says "One of the great things about Weed is that it's a totally open system; anybody with something to say can be heard. What we're about is helping people find their audience on the Net. We're thrilled to do that for Fine Arts Militia."

Brian Hardgroove, of the Fine Arts Militia, noted: "Weed is the first Internet distribution model I've seen that works for both artists and fans. We hope to make great use of it."
